Is there anything cuter than seeing your dog wants to kiss you? Well, for non-dog owners, it probably presents one of the most awful moments in their lives. However, did you know there are several reasons why do French bulldogs, and other dog breeds, lick their owners?

Showing affection

We all know that Frenchies belong to one of the most affectionate dog breeds in the world. They enjoy spending time with their owners and to follow them wherever they go. So, if your Frenchie licks your hand or face every time you tell him some praise words, he just wants to show you how much he loves you.

The same happens when you come home from work, right? The sound of the door opening certainly presents one of the best moments in his life. Your Frenchie will run to your hug as he didn’t see you for years.

Stress reduction

Did you know that French bulldogs can suffer from separation anxiety? It’s because they belong to companion dog breeds that are taught to work alongside their owners. That’s why before you start leaving your batpig home alone, I advise you to start with early socialization. A dog that has been early introduced with the outside world will be less prone to suffer from anxiety through his lifetime.

When your French bulldog constantly wants to lick your hands, feet or he excessively licks himself, I recommend you to discover the root of the problem. In most cases, when a dog constantly licks his body parts, it’s one of the ways to reduce the amount of stress he deals with. For example, excessive paw licking may lead to yeast growth and developing other infections as well.

I also advise every Frenchie owner to regularly check for stuck plant pieces or other harmful elements of their dog’s paws. Note that walking on hot pavements in summer can also lead your little gremlin to excessively licking his paws.

‘Your Frenchie licks you because he likes the way you taste’

It probably sounds gross to you, but the more smelly and salty we get, the more we seem attractive to our dogs. It’s because salty skin seems intriguing to pooches. They tend to discover the world by using their tongues and noses. So, you don’t need to worry if you don’t have time to take a shower because your Frenchie doesn’t mind it!

Your Frenchie helps you to deal with stress

Dogs are highly intelligent beings that can feel our emotions. That’s why it’s nothing odd to see your French bulldog licks you when you feel nervous or stressed. Our dog’s intentions are to reduce stress by licking our hands, feet or face. He only wants to be your greatest supports in those moments.

Licking is the part of your dog’s nature

If you’ve ever seen a puppy litter then you could notice that mother licks her pups from the moment she gives them birth. It’s actually the first instinct they learn. Licking is a form of communication and stimulation for dogs. Another reason why does mother lick her puppies is because it’s the way how she stimulates them to breathe. The puppies also need to feel the smell of their mother so what’s better than when she licks them?
