Summer is probably the most favorite season not only for people but also for dogs. It’s the time you can enjoy playing fetch in your yard, go swimming, hiking, and camping. On the other hand, it’s the time when your French bulldog requires special care too. Due to his tendency to overheat, providing him with plenty of water and natural shadow in summer is ‘a must’. Even in the case, you don’t live in a hot area, it’s extremely important to keep your Frenchie’s body temperature in normal ranges.

How to know if your Frenchie’s having a heat stroke?

Well, it’s quite easy to determine if your pooch is experiencing a heat stroke. You will notice his heavy breathing, drooling, panting, trembling, tiredness, and in some extreme cases vomiting and diarrhea. Vomiting and diarrhea can lead to loss of your dog’s optimal level of fluids. Therefore, I want to provide some useful advice all Frenchie owners on how to take care of their dogs in summer.

Tips for keeping a Frenchie cool in summer months

1. The first rule is not to take your doggie outside in the period of the highest temperature. I suggest you stroll your French bulldog early in the morning and late in the evening. Escape the hottest part of the day.

2. Always provide your dog with plenty of fresh water and clean his bowls regularly.

3. It’s better to feed your furry friend with multiple smaller meals than feeding him with one or two big ones. In that way, you’ll save him from heavy feeling in his stomach. I also give an advantage to the BARF diet for French bulldogs. In that way, you’ll be the only one who will tailor his menu, and have control of what he eats.

4. Buying different cooling equipment to help your Frenchie survive the summer months.

There are many useful tools that can be used for quick decreasing your dog’s body temperature. For example, it could be a self-cooling mat, a kiddy pool, or a sprinkle.

Why does a Frenchie need a self-cooling pad?

Self-Cooling sleeping mats are a great tool for regulating your pup’s body temperature. They are filled with gel and water and work best when are kept out of direct sunlight. You maybe didn’t know this, but French bulldog’s body temperature is usually 15 degrees higher from human’s. Besides their soft palate and flat faces, their fur is that makes their bodies so warm.

Cooling sleeping mats will always provide your pooch with a place to cool down and help him survive the hottest time of the year. How many times you had the opportunity to see your furry gremlin’s searching for the coolest place in the house?

This solid-gel mat from Frenchie World® is self-charging, which makes it easy to use. It’s also weight-activated so it responds to your pup’s body heat for up to three hours. Nontoxic, lightweight and durable – it’s no wonder this is the go-to cooling pad for many pet owners

Really effective cooling pads are often made of nylon fabric because it holds up to wear and tear while staying breathable.

Buying your pooch a small kiddy pool and a life jacket (in case you like to go swimming together) is also ‘a must’. Note that Frenchies are not capable to swim without a life vest because of their short and compact bodies.

Splashing your Frenchie with water presents another great way for keeping his body temperature in normal rates. Frenchie World 360 Dog Washer can be used both for bathing your lovely batpig with shampoo or only for cooling purposes.

Just connect it to your hose, add shampoo, slip the hoop over your dog and turn on. The soap and water instantly mix, creating a sudsy solution to scrub your pup clean, from head to tail. Your Frenchie will be shampooed and rinsed in under one minute.
